Iran sends U.S. a ‘rant’ over plot
Iran has sent the United States a seven-page “rant” denying responsibility for the alleged terror plot to kill Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to the U.S., State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said Tuesday.
“It was about seven pages. It was a rant. It was full of all kinds of denials,” Nuland said, according to Reuters. “There was not a lot new in there from our perspective.”
Nuland added that Swiss diplomats passed the note to the U.S., as the U.S. and Iran have no formal diplomatic relations.
The Justice Department announced in October it had broken up an Iranian government-sponsored plot to kill Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to the United States, Adel al-Jubeir. The U.S. alleges the plot was directed by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Qods Force, but Iran has repeatedly refuted the claim.
